Beatin the Beast...Betes??

How awesome would it be if there was a cure for Betes?  I'd definitely be joyous as would many many others!  But unfortunately at this time there isn't a cure....soo there are two choices (talking about Type 1 Diabetes specifically) for me: 1. Denial/Disregard or 2. "Beat" it to the best of my ability.

Well I choose to "beat" my Type 1 betes every day!  It hasn't been easy all the time, but I'm determined NOT to let betes run my life.

One of they ways I keep my Betes under control is by checking my blood sugar levels 8-10 times a day, which I know many might call obsessive, but I like to make sure everything is in check.  It's also kind of out of habit.  When I was pregnant with Little Man, they had me checking my sugars that many times and faxing in my numbers twice a week for adjustments.  Even though I'm not currently preggo, I still like the idea of keeping my sugars in line and keeping my body/organs functioning as best they can. I'm sure thankful I had such a healthy baby while dealing with Type 1 Diabetes!

There are several other ways that I try to "beat" my Diabetes, but I won't bore you all in one sitting!  Now for those of you who have Diabetes and are reading this....I'm not trying to brag about how many times I check my sugar or any of that, I just wanted to show how I'm trying to win my fight with Betes and I hope you are putting up a fight as well! :) I fight every day for myself, my hubby, and for L.

Let's keep on battling this beast called Betes, or really any beast you have, while we find the beauty in trying to overcome our adversities!

How are you winning over your beast(s) today?

Fight on....fight on!

MY one word

while listening to the radio this week, i was challenged to not just make an endless list of all the things i wanted to change this year but to choose my one word (click the link for more information) for the year that i want God to help me work on in my life.

i’ve never really liked or stuck to New Year’s resolutions in the past, so i like this concept of focusing on an area that God has been nudging me about instead of dwelling on a hundred things that i dislike about myself or things in general.

MY one word for the year is going to be POSITIVE.  i want to be more positive about everything in my life.  i’ve always been what you might call a “debby downer” and i’m tired of living like that (that’s probably why i married who i believe to be the MOST positive person in the world J )!  i don’t believe that is the woman God wants me to be and i’m ready to work on it.

i want to be a positive person for myself, my husband, my family, my friends, my son, and for those i come in contact with that i don’t even know.  this definitely won’t be an easy journey, but with the help of God, my hubby and this word as my daily reminder,  i’m going to work on becoming the woman i want to be and the positive thinker that God created me to become.

i will be referencing MY one word throughout 2012….so what will YOUR ONE WORD be for 2012???  check out My One Word to find out more!

Explain that Name!

Hey all, welcome to my first blog.   I am new to the blogger world but after encouragement from family and my big sister over at http://www.thehollierogue.com/  I decided it was time to get involved!  Now I don't have this whole blog thing figured out, so bear with me if you will and let me explain more about the title of my blog....

You may be wondering what Betes means (sounds like beeties)...well if you didn't gather from the "dia" in front of it, it is the slang I use for my Diabetes.  I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, or Betes, 7 years ago right before my freshman year of college.  It was definitely scary, but oddly enough I felt a sense of peace during that time, which I believe only came through my relationship with Christ.  (I'll talk more about my diagnosis and living with Betes in future blogs so be sure to check back.)

The "beauty" part is for all of the beautiful things in my life and in the lives of others.  I feel so blessed to have such an amazing, close-knit family and the cutest little 1 year old baby boy.  There is so much to be thankful for and there is beauty all around us, from the changing of seasons to the birth of a child to something as small as crafting with your sisters!  In a fast-paced world filled with negativity and evil, sometimes we forget to look at the simplest of beauties around us.  Now believe me, my life isn't all roses and rainbows, but I know that sometimes I just need to be reminded of the beauty in life and the wonder of God.

So that's why I chose the title Beauty and the diaBetes...so that I could encourage myself and others with the beauty in our lives and to share my experiences with Type 1 Diabetes.

I hope you all enjoy your read and will come back to visit!

God Bless!
